Nalini Oliver
A petri dish and many different types of bacteria are not things that the average high school student wants to spend their time around. But for Nalini Oliver, sophomore she cannot get enough of it. A smart girl holding a 4.0 grade point average, she hopes to go into the field of Microbiology as an adult. Whether it be in public health or science, Oliver is committed to a career only if bacteria is involved. She found her love for microbiology in the ninth grade after spending countless hours in the lab working on her project for the International Science and Engineering Fair, also known as ISEF. Oliver gets her first name Nalini, which means lotus or lily, from Indian culture. Her father and mother emigrated to the United States in the 1980s. “Working with bacteria and finding out information about them, learning about the problems that they may cause and using that to help people, that is what I hope to do with my life.”
