iPad 3 comes out with improvements and high expectations

iPad+3+comes+out+with+improvements+and+high+expectations

It’s out with the old and in with new when it comes to the newly engineered third-generation Apple iPad, released March 16. Since its predecessor, the iPad 2, released in 2011, the iPad 3 has gone under multiple changes and renovations, some more significant than others. Though some may consider the new iPad overrated, avid Apple customers may look forward to purchasing the new device.

Soon after the release date, Apple revealed that over three million devices were sold. Compare this to the first iPad launch, which sold one million devices in a month’s time, and the iPad 2’s launch, which sold three million within 80 days. In just four days, the iPad 3 has surpassed both its ancestors in sales. These numbers will continue to grow vastly following the release of the iPad 3 worldwide.

There has been much hype as to what separates the 2012 version of the tablet from its older version. While there haven’t been major design or system changes, the iPad 3 has a handful of features have been altered to enhance performance.

Perhaps the most noticeable change is the improved retina screen display with four times more pixels than the iPad 2. This makes colors more vibrant, letters sharper and visuals more appealing. Apple has also incorporated a 5-megapixel iSight camera in replace of its previous less than 1-megapixel version. It can shoot 1080 HD videos as well. The iPad 3 also comes with 4G LTE, allowing wireless internet to run faster than before.

Many people think that the iPad 3 is not so much of a new tablet as it is an upgrade of the pervious iPads. True, the improved graphics and faster internet address the complaints of the past iPads, but there is no drastic difference of the tablet. Due to this, some may think that the iPad 3 is simply not worth the investment. The iPad 3 starts at $499 and comes in black and white.

The world of tablets, even as replacements of computers, has grown and expanded over the years. Apple iPad tablets have taken the electronic market by storm and will continue to evolve in the future with the constant advancements in  technology. Whether or not it is a revolutionary idea or simply an upgrade, it cannot be denied that iPad 3s are flying off the shelves.

Sarah Chung, Co-Editor-in-Chief
Not only is Sarah Chung a piano player, National Merit semi-finalist, tennis player and snowboarder, but she is a phenomenal writer and dedicated journalist. “Journalism is my favorite class, and I’m not just saying that because Ms. Breyne (Journalism Adviser) is standing right next to me,” Sarah Chung, senior, said. She had no idea that after joining the eighth grade journalism class at Athey Creek Middle School that she would be co-editor-in-chief of the West Linn High School Amplifier. As a senior enjoying the early release sixth period, she is starting to think about college. “I’m really excited, but also scared because it is almost over,” Chung said. “I am definitely going to make the most of this year.” Chung is interested in attending the University of Washington, University of North Carolina, Duke or the University of San Francisco to go into medical school. After going on a mission trip to Nicaragua, her lasting impressions of the doctors and how they were able to help the people in the country stuck with her. She now dreams of practicing medicine and going on frequent trips to help people in need, like the ones she saw in Nicaragua. Outside of her journalism life, Sarah Chung lives with her parents, Jonathan and Grace, her fourth grade brother, Nathan, and her Maltese, Mickey. She plays varsity tennis and enjoys driving around with her friends in one of their Volkswagen Bugs. She continues to play the piano, which she began when she was six years old. Chung was born in California on Groundhog’s Day, Feb. 2, and she moved to Oregon when she was only a couple months old. What Chung appreciates about Oregon is the seasonal changes.  “They must be distinct,” Chung said.  Winter is her favorite season because all the “good” things are in it.  Christmas, snowboards and snow.  She loves to go to the mountain and snowboard with her friends during winter. Chung is looking forward to her fourth year on the Amplifier providing great journalism to the students, staff and the community of West Linn.
