Oregon Ducks finish the season ranked fifth

The battleground for this year’s Civil War took place at Oregon State’s Reser Stadium, and despite the Beavers keeping close until the second half, the Ducks ran away with a final score of 48-24. This is the Ducks fifth consecutive win in the 116 game rivalry.

For both teams, the Civil War is usually the season final, but on Dec. 1 the Beavers are hosting against Nicholls State in a matchup that was supposed to open the season, the game was postponed due to Hurricane Isaac in the Colonels’ Thibodaux, Louis., campus. As a result, of this the Beavers will have to wait to find out where they are heading for a bowl game. Already, though, this season can be counted a success for the Beavers an 8-3 season compared to last year’s 3-9.

The Ducks this year had an undefeated season until they played against Stanford two weeks ago and lost in overtime, 17-14.  This ended their chance of going to the Pac-12 title game.  Even if the Ducks miss out on the Pac-12 and national championship games they are still at large for a bid in a BCS bowl game with an 11-1 record.  They are currently ranked fifth in the national BCS polls .
