After a thrilling ride last year in the state tournament, the girls basketball team began the season with two losses in the season opening tournament at home. The Lions fell to West Salem (2-0, 0-0 Central Valley Conference) on Friday, Nov. 30 with a nail biting final score of 41-40.
“The final minutes of the West Salem game were very intense. It went back and forth and they had a very strong point guard that scored several times in the end,” Ashley Johnson, junior guard, said.
On Saturday, the team ended the weekend with a 46-36 loss to Tigard (1-1, 0-0 Pacific Conference).
“Our intensity level was higher in the West Salem [game], and, unfortunately, we were pretty flat in the Tigard game,” Johnson said. “We need to focus on communicating, rebounding and putting forth effort for a solid 32 minutes on Tuesday against Wilsonville and Friday against Wilson.”
The Lions visit Wilsonville tonight at 7:15 p.m. and Wilson on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
