Lions tennis pick up two wins to lead the Three Rivers League

April is treating the Boys Tennis very modestly so far,the West Linn Lions ( 3-1, 2-0 Three Rivers League), despite losing 1-3 at the end of the first round of play, cameback to defeat league opponent and TRL best Grant Generals with a final team score of 5-3 on April 1st. With an additional win on April 2 over the Lakeridge Pacers, 5-3, the Lions moved into first place of the TRL.

With first place in the TRL on the line, the Lions achieved singles victories from Paraschuk to again have the Lions down 1-3 going into the doubles matches against the Pacers. The Lions also had victories from all of their doubles teams to boost the Lions to a victory and into sole possession of first place in the TRL.

“I was really proud that my partner Yem could help take first place away from the Pacers,” Cornell said.

In singles matches against the Generals,  Russell Risenhoover, sophomore, lost his match 6-1, 6-2. Logan Scott-Deeter, sophomore, lost both of his games 6-0 to Grant’s top player Ethan Ogard, senior . Co-Captain Andre To, senior, brought the Lions back on track with 6-4 and 6-3 victories. Mark Paraschuk, senior, also secured a victory for the Lions with 6-4 and 6-3 wins as well.

In the doubles matches, Co-Captain Craig Wright,senior, and Mitch Tingey, junior, lost their match in three sets: 7-5,4-6,1-6. Neil Olson, senior, and Cam Minson, senior, pulled out a victory to bring the Lions within a point of the Generals. Both Mitch Cornell, senior and his partner Yem Alharithi, sophomore, and Connor Houlette, sophomore, and his partner Dakoda Archer,sophomore, finished, and won, their matches with a wink of brightness left to bring the victory home for the Lions.

“It felt pretty good to beat one of the best teams in state,” Cornell said.
