Despite pre-season loss, Lions Baseball is off to a strong start in league

Starting off the league season strong the West Linn Baseball team shut out Canby on the evening of April 8. With a final score of 5-0, the team exmlified aggressive hitting and strong defense.


Without any errors, the players stood as a strong backup for Matthew Fletcher, senior and pitcher, throughout the game. Fletcher had a total of 13 strikeouts, zero walks and only gave up three hits.


Aside from having a strong defense, the Lions were aggressive at the plate as well. In the first inning, starting off strong, they scored two runs with Karsen Lindell and Braden Vogt, juniors with singles, Kevin Kott, senior, with a double and Alec Gans, senior with a single. In the second inning Lindell’s hit cleaned the bases with a two run home run into deep center field.


“It was nice to come back after losing Friday, the team played really well against Canby,” Fletcher, said.


The Lions Felt accomplished after their win despite their loss Hermiston last Friday, April 5.

With a lot of errors throughout the game the Lions gave up five of unearned runs and did not manage to pull through. They had the lead in the fourth inning 3-2 but Hermiston came back with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.


The Lions play at Canby both Wednesday and Friday, at 5 p.m. weather permitting.
