Girl’s lacrosse remains undefeated after championship rematch against Lake Oswego

After an exciting physical game, West Linn wins 15-11 against last year’s last year’s state runner up.

Following Monday’s win against the Lakers, the Varsity Lions girls Lacrosse Team has remained undefeated in State for the past year. Led by a strong senior class, Mariah Gatti, senior, scored three of the 15 goals. Hanna Morford, junior, also put three in the back of the net. The star performance of the night came from last year’s championship player of the game, Natalie Byrne, sophomore. Byrne scored nine goals.

The girls feel confident in themselves and are going to continue to work hard. “We definitely have a huge target on our back considering we won last year. But I feel very confident and have faith in our team to win it again this year,” Byrne said.

Although they lost players from last year, the underclassmen starters who are replacing them look very strong. Goalie Annalyssa Sassara, freshman, makes it tough for the other team to score. Caitlin Malvar, sophomore, a Wilsonville transfer, helps in defending the midfield. Finally Adina Mollusky, freshman, an attacking midfielder, hopefully will provide the Lions with some goals this year.

With a 6-0 record it’s a great start to the season for the team. They are on track to defend their state championship title. “We just need to keep our momentum and not back off,” Byrne said. “We still have a lot of work to do.”
