Lions advance in the playoffs with 49-15 win over Roosevelt

In the first round of the OSAA state playoffs the eighth-seeded West Linn Lions (8-2, 5-2 Three Rivers League) claimed a victory over 25th seeded Roosevelt (5-5, 4-2 Portland Interscholastic League) 49-15. The Lions started off in the first quarter with two touchdowns, with sophomore running back Elijah Molden rushing for one, and sophomore quarterback Tim Tawa throwing to junior wide receiver Cody Coppedge to give the Lions a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Molden rushed for another touchdown and Tawa connected with junior wide receiver Connor Berggren as the Lions went into halftime with a 28-7 lead.

The Lions further extended their lead in the third quarter with Tawa throwing to Coppedge for another touchdown and Molden rushing for his third of the night, giving the Lions a comfortable 42-15 lead.

The Lions extended their lead in the fourth quarter with a rushing touchdown from junior running back Khalil Monson, ending the game with a 49-15 win.

With the win, the Lions advance to the second round of the OSAA playoffs. They will play Friday 7 p.m. at home against Clackamas.
