With only a week left of the regular season before playoffs, the West Linn Varsity Baseball team (18-5,12-3 Three Rivers League)  is making it count with a 8-4 win over Lakeridge (13-9, 12-4 TRL).

The Lions came out swinging with a 3-0 lead after the first inning, but the Pacers came back in the third earning two runs off pitcher Will Matthiessen, junior. The Lions kept fighting with hits from Colton Cosner, senior, helping to extend the lead to 5-2. Tim Tawa, junior, came in as relief for Matthiessen, shutting down the Pacers bats. Sealing the victory for the Lions was a two run home run from Karsen Lindell, senior, in the bottom of the sixth.

The Lions currently hold a one game lead over Lakeridge in the TRL. Up next is a two-game series against Sherwood (12-12, 8-7 TRL) as the Lions try to clinch their second straight TRL title. They will play at Sherwood Tuesday, 5 p.m. and Wednesday at home, 5 p.m.
