Three consecutive seasons for women’s lacrosse have ended with a state championship appearance, all against Three Rivers League rival Lake Oswego. Hailey Davis, junior attack, spoke more on the improvement of the team and bouncing back from adversity.

“We’re constantly practicing to improve our fitness,” Davis said. “As a team we are hoping to get better with every game, and I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of our season. Looking forward we have some tough challenges, especially when we face Lake Oswego, but we hope that we’ll be ready to face each team head on.”

No matter the scores, each player on the team fills an important role. Liz Lofurno, junior, recognizes the importance and significance of family as the season progresses.

“West Linn Lacrosse has always been a family to me,” Lofurno said. “Our bond as a team is so special, and we all support each other in pursuit of a successful season. I tore my ACL, and even with that season ending injury I still feel like I have an equally important role on the team. We all support each other and strive to make every member on the team better; which will lead to a more successful season.”

Last season the Lady Lions’ lacrosse team was led by seniors and upperclassmen. Katie Maloney, freshman goalkeeper, is one of many underclassmen faced with the challenge of finding their role and incorporating themselves into the team. Anna Klose, sophomore, an underclassman herself sees this change as just another challenge to overcome.

“This year’s roster makeup is a lot different than last; but different in a good way,” Klose said. “Everyone on the team is excited to grow together, and because of our freshman influence we have a lot to work with. Despite our start, we have a strong team that hopes to become successful down the stretch.”

Haley Thayer, junior, added more concerning the impact of younger players when put with older more experienced athletes.

“From top to bottom our team really has amazing athletes, both returning and new,” Thayer said. “Each individual brings a unique energy that pushes others during practice and in games. On the field we have a lot of players with diverse skill sets, some shooters, great defenders, and two incredibly talented goalkeepers. If everyone plays with passion, and buys into the game plan then we will have a ton of fun this season.”

Check back soon for season updates of the Lady Lions as their season progresses.
