Men’s playoffs underway! Zeke Viuhkola, senior, performs a handshake with Jake Holmes, junior. The fifth-seeded West Linn Lions hosted the 28th-seeded Ida B. Wells Guardians on Mar. 1 in the first round of the OSAA 6A playoffs. The Lions defeated the Guardians by scoring 72 points in the last three quarters after only scoring 12 points in the first quarter, “We just keep playing,” Viuhkola said. “We knew we were gonna hit shots later on.” The final score was 90-70 in favor of the Lions.

Suhaani Garg, freshman. Garg went to Pacific City, Oregon to spend some time at the coast. She walked up and down the beach, looking at all the marine life there was to offer in December, escaping the even colder weather at home. “We saw starfish and it was a really great experience…My favorite part was probably getting to walk on the beach after a really long time and sliding down the dunes.”

In the nature preserve, Camassia, that surrounds the campus, trash lays littered on the ground. It has become such a problem that ASB officers, like Noelle Herrick, senior, are planning a school wide trash pickup. “I was disappointed to see the trash and was more disappointed in our student body,” Herrick said. Uncovered garbage cans outside allow factors like wind, birds, and wild animals to disrupt the trash. Geology teacher Geoff Bingham has been teaching at West Linn since 2005 and graduated in 1999. “Part of our large outside problem is that kids are throwing trash away outside of the school but they are not covered garbage cans,” Bingham said.

Rising anticipation. On a wet and rainy night at Pioneer Memorial Stadium, the Lions take on the South Salem Saxons in the second round of the Oregon 6A football playoffs. After beating Bend in the first round, the Lions faced South Salem for the first time ever on Friday night. South Salem had defeated David Douglas to advance to the second round, but fell short of victory against the Lions.
