Twenty-seven West Linn High School musicians qualified to audition for the All-State Band and Orchestra in January which will be held at the Hult Center in Eugene, Ore. Nearly 1,000 students auditioned for the roughly 200 spots. For three days the musicians will rehearse with a conductor until a final performance.
“Being selected is a huge honor for individual students and is a real testament to their dedication and hours of preparation,” Kevin Egan, band teacher said. Ryan Conrad, freshman has been playing for three years and is one of the four who for qualified. “I started playing the trumpet because I loved Jazz music,” Ryan said. “I was psyched to hear I got it.”
Many of the students in band will also be playing in the orchestra pit for the musical “Into the Woods,” which opened on Nov. 7 and plays on Thursday through Saturday. Egan hopes that people will come see the performers and encourages people to congratulate the students who made it into state.
