West Linn Library’s Teen Advisory Board continues through its ninth year

With a new design for the library’s teen room in the works, four meetings completed and three teen-oriented events under its belts, West Linn Library’s Teen Advisory Board has begun to congregate and assess affairs. The group, which focuses on making decisions that benefit the library (specifically its teen section), is looking foreword its agenda of the upcoming year.

“I’m really excited about some of the things TAB is going to accomplish,” Elaine Spence, creator of TAB, said.  “By now the group runs like a well-oiled machine, but it is always great to hear the new ideas the students bring with them”.

TAB began nine years ago, at a time when teen involvement was just starting to become prevalent in libraries.

“Before, TAB was taking [jabs] in the dark with teen events; sometimes they worked, sometimes they didn’t, so it was really nice to have the feedback and input from the people we were trying to service,” Spence said.

Providing feedback is just one aspect of TAB; it also creates an opportunity to positively influence the community. This appeals to students like Katherine Walters, freshmen, who has been a long-term member of TAB.

“I love being involved in lots of things and helping the community,” Walter said, referring to her numerous commitments within the community. “TAB provides a place to do that.”

New members are welcome. To join and become involved, contact Spence or contact another  a TAB member. Meetings are on the first Tuesday of every month in the West Linn Library Teen Room from 4:30 to 5:30 pm throughout the school year.
