Volunteer on May 16 to preserve the City of West Linn

From Old Willamette to the Oregon City Bridge at night, West Linn’s beauty shines 24 hours a day, seven days a week. May 16, from 9 a.m to noon, the annual Take Care of West Linn Day will be held to preserve that beauty.
“Hard work is required, but in the end you have so much fun volunteering that takes all the stress of life away,” Celia Lawrence, sophomore, said.
Take Care of West Linn Day is designed to promote volunteering in the community. The Park and Advisory Board wanted to promote the value of volunteering but later realized it that this event also results in lasting friendships.
“I really got to know other people in the community who also enjoyed volunteering,” Leah Olson, junior, said. “I hope to see them again this year.”
Projects include trail maintenance, tree planting, invasive species removal in parks, some landscaping projects and other service opportunities in which groups and individuals can participate.Individuals can meet at project headquarters at Mary S. Young for a job site assignment.
Previous projects have included planting alongside Willamette Falls Drive, cleaning up around the boat docks, and fixing the West Linn sign where the wood had deteriorated.
“It was cool to see a bunch of people in the community come together to make the city pretty,” Natalie Bruun, sophomore, said. “I look forward to continuing helping out for years to come.”
At noon there will be a barbeque held at Mary S. Young Park for those who volunteered.
