In an email sent to staff and families, West Linn Principal Kevin Mills announced that he will not be returning to his position for the 2018-19 school year.
Mills, who was promoted from Vice Principal upon the departure of Lou Bailey, took over the position in July of 2015.
According to district communications director Andrew Kilstrom, Mills informed the district on Monday, July 2 that he had accepted a role at Lake Oswego Junior High School.
Mills’ email read as follows:
I hope the summer is treating everyone well and you are taking some time to relax. I would like to let you all know that I have been presented with a new and exciting opportunity for the upcoming school year outside of the district. I have accepted the position as the next Principal at Lake Oswego Jr. High for the 2018-2019 school year.
I have been fortunate to work and live in this community over the past several years. This community is one to be proud of as it continually achieves at a high level. West Linn has a culture that is welcoming and supportive of all students. Each year I cherish the relationships that I am able to build with our students and love to see the success that they find. I am confident that West Linn will continue to reach high levels because of our amazing staff, students, and community.
While I will be taking on a new role, I will never forget the lessons I have learned at West Linn and relationships that I have built. I wish all of you the best! Go Lions!
According to Kilstrom, the search for a new principal “will start immediately,” and the district hopes “to have a replacement by the end of July.”
“We’re looking for a strong leader who can pick up where Kevin left off,” Kilstrom said.
“We’re just appreciative for the many years of service [Mills] provided to the school district and our students,” Kilstrom said.
The Amplifier will provide updates as information becomes available, and it will cover the search for a new principal over the summer.
