Long-awaited flurries captivate local skiers, snowboarders

After a slow start to the 2011 2012 ski season, Mt. Hood ski resorts are finally experiencing the snow accumulation that they’ve been waiting for. The storm began Saturday afternoon, continuing through Martin Luther King day weekend. And it’s just the beginning.

Powder-lovers, be ready, because it’s estimated that over five feet of snow is due to fall within the next couple of weeks. Mt. Hood Meadows ski resort experienced a total of over 30 inches of new snow over this past weekend and is expecting heavy snowfall through this week and into next week. Mountain temperatures for this week will linger in the teens through the 30’s. Stormy conditions exist, meaning wind and lifts running at reduced speeds, but the turns will be incredible.
