Linda Snyder, Emily Topping and Sophia Pesetti prepare for their one act play “Wherever Comes After” The student-directed Shorts opens May 7 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium. Tickets are available at the door, or online at www.wlhstheatre.org.

For the past 16 years, West Linn High School Thespians have been given an opportunity to write, or more commonly direct their own one 15 to 20 minute one act play and access an audience that may have been difficult to reach otherwise. This year there will be five shorts, two of which are written are directed by students and four of which are directed by students.

With subject matter that ranges from recently married couples to teenage troubles, Shorts 16 is shaping up to be both interesting and varied, according to Kala Gadd, junior.

‘“Pillow Talk” is about a newlywed couple who goes to see two marriage counselors who are also married. The counselors end up having more problems than the couple who came to see them,” Gadd said. Gadd is excited for her WLHS acting debut as Doctor Tiffany Heaven in “Pillow Talk” directed by Jordyn Marvin-Battersby.

“The best part of playing Tiffany is that even though it’s a short play, Tiffany is still really dynamic and has a moment where she’s sad, happy, angry, calm, crazy, etc. It’s really fun to go from emotion to emotion. I can’t wait to see the audience’s’ response.”

“Pillow Talk” will be accompanied by other single acts, such as “The Therapist” directed by Steve Beckingham, drama teacher, which is a comedy revolving around a teenager named Derek who is attending therapy for a very particular issue.

“I’m really excited to do comedy. It is always fun,” Kirsten Driggers, sophomore, and actor said.

Four out of five of the one acts will be completely student run without teacher involvement. Other shorts include “Bath Time is Fun” directed by Hope Gilbert, senior; “Breaking and Entering” directed by Janae Turner; senior; “Wherever Comes After”directed by Sophia Pesetti senior. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. on = May 7, 8, and 9. Tickets are $5 for students, $8 for adults, and can be purchased at the door, or online at www.wlhstheatre.org.
