“The Last Jedi” requires history lesson

What you need to know about “The Force Awakens” before you see the latest Star Wars film.

The plot of Star Wars movies are complicated and it can be intimidating to go see a movie without seeing the previous movie or forgetting the plot of the last movie, so I am going to give a quick summary of the last Star Wars movie, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

“The Force Awakens” takes place 30 years after Darth Vader and the Empire fell. A Empire like group trying to control the galaxy and destroy all who stand in their way called the First Order lead by Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver. Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, is a scavenger from the barren planet Jakku, who finds a droid a crowd favorite called BB-8, which has information about the whereabouts of the legendary Luke Skywalker.

While the finding of BB-8 is happening, an elite stormtrooper who adopts the name Finn, played by John Boyega, deserts the First Order because he refused to kill innocent villagers. While on the run from the first order, he meets Rey and BB8 and joins them. While trying to hide the droid from the first order, and return it to the resistance, Rey and her friends meet Han Solo, played by Harrison Ford, and Chewbacca, played by Peter Mayhew, who introduce Rey to some people who help her.

Ultimately, the group completes their goal of returning the valuable droid, but after the goal is completed, not only the safety of the resistance is in jeopardy, but the galaxy as a whole as well. The First Order has the starkiller base, a weapon of mass destruction, built into a planet. The group is able to destroy this base, but only after Han is killed at the hands of his son Kylo Ren. The movie ends with Rey using the information from the droid, and going to a mysterious island and staring face to face with the greatest jedi the galaxy has ever seen. Buy tickets here.
