West Linn Girls Soccer is Playing For Keeps
Even without Madison Leek, West Linn’s leading scorer who graduated last year, the Lions are still coming out on top. So far they have plowed through the pre-season with five wins under their belt and only one loss allowing them to sit in eighth place in state.
The team started off the season strong with a 1-0 victory against Wilsonville and then continued it’s momentum into the next game beating out Southridge by one goal, 3-2. The next week the girls took on Putnam and emerged the victor ending it 3-1. They shut out the Blues from St. Mary’s Academy, with a 2-0 victory. The Lions lost their season opener, 1-2, in a tight game against the Oregon City Pioneers. The Lions bounced back with a 1-0 win over the Lake Oswego Lakers.
The Lions’ two long-term goals for the year according to Madison Mills, senior, are “Winning league and making it past the second round of the playoffs.”
Chemistry is really important to this team according to Mills and is showing early on and the Lions will be a team to watch out for in the 2013 season because of their ability to score and control the game.

When he is not scoring goals on the soccer field, Blake Hepburn, senior, is busy studying for his advanced placement classes and enjoying the great outdoors.
