Lillian Gottschling
Up until Lily Gottschling, freshman, was introduced to journalism by her older brother, she had expressed little to no interest in the topic. But, after learning more about the class, she realized that journalism was a passion she could see herself pursuing.

“I’ve always loved writing and from a young age I knew that it would be a big part of my life, no matter what career path I chose,” Gottschling said. “At first I was worried that, by taking the class, I would be missing out on some of the other electives at this school, but writing is something that I love to do and I knew that I couldn’t pass up this opportunity.”

From a young age Gottschling has loved reading and writing articles on various historical figures and events. Along with her passion for writing, Gottschling is a huge music fan.

“I always took after my dad in that way. He’s a huge music nerd and the obsession was definitely instilled upon my brother and I from a young age,” Gottschling said.

A big reason that Gottschling says she chose to take journalism was due to the negative light that it’s been talked about in the past few years.

“I always see people shaming journalists or different news sources for doing their job,” Gottschling said. "The things that journalists have to do on a regular basis affects everybody in one way or another and their jobs aren’t easy, but what they do is extremely important.”

With the ever changing climate of journalism, Gottschling says she’s unsure of where it’s going, all she knows is that she wants to be a part of it.
