Matilda Milner
She came to write, but she stayed to teach. Matilda Milner, junior, and co-editor-in-chief of the Amplifier, notes the way her relationship with journalism has changed since her freshman year.

"With how much time and effort I invest in journalism, it's important that I ask myself why I'm doing it, and who I'm doing it for," Milner said. "And at first it was very much for myself, because I've always loved to write. But through the years, it's become more about helping others learn to love to write."

In pursuing her love of teaching, Milner has become an avid Outdoor School counselor.

"It's everything I love," Milner said. "It's spending time in nature, working with kids and learning from the staff members on site. I think outdoor school is one of the most important programs Oregon offers."

But according to Milner, neither being a teacher nor a journalist is the most important part of her identity.

"I'm an activist first," Milner said. She involves herself in advocating for climate justice, income equality, feminism, LGBTQ+ rights, and racial justice, to name a few.

"The cool thing is, all of my main passions seem to tie together," Milner said. "I can teach others while advocate for disenfranchised groups through journalism. That's why I love it."
