Ann Breyne, Journalism Adviser

Ann Breyne, journalism adviser, has been enchanted by journalism since sophomore year of high school because it’s “creative, always changing, and about pursuing information”. The avid hiker’s interest in journalism was sparked in her sophomore year of high school when she took a Journalism I class and was the only student to be promoted on the newspaper staff. She admits that she wasn’t intimidated about being cub reporter on the staff, she was too focused on her writing to worry about anything else. Breyne, although interested in journalism since sophomore year, didn’t always know she wanted to be a teacher. It wasn’t until a college adviser suggested a career in education that she considered it. The seasoned journalist earned her undergrad at Oregon State and masters at Lewis and Clark, majoring in education and specializing in English and journalism. If she wasn’t a teacher, she would choose to be an independently wealthy philanthropist, traveling the world and helping others along the way. She is married to Doug and has two daughters, Jordan, 24, and Avery, 19, and two grandchildren, Clementine, 5, and Malcolm, 6 months.
