Peyton Todd

Peyton Todd, Staff Reporter

Peyton Todd, freshman, hadn’t thought about being a writer, until she met her 8th grade art teacher, Mr. Hunter. It was during a writing assignment for that class that her teacher noticed and took a particular interest in her work.

"When my art teacher said he liked reading my writing, I was really surprised because I didn't think it was anything special," said Todd. Before she met Hunter, Todd was rather quiet. Because of his class, she learned that she had a voice, and she could use it to positively impact and change the community. Her teacher was such a role model that he inspired her to aspire to be a high school art teacher, and pass on what she learned from him. After high school, she plans to go to The Art Institute of Portland, and settle somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. Her art teacher was also the one to inspire her to express herself in the way she does today.

“He would talk about the different ways people expressed themselves, through art, appearance, and actions,” she said. Todd was always afraid that people judged her for how she expressed herself, but then she realized that it didn’t matter what people thought, as long as you were happy with yourself and believed in your actions. So naturally, she dyed her hair blue.

Todd likes writing because "it's an art form that doesn't require a special talent like drawing, and some writing can change your view of the world." Creative writing, realistic fiction, and war torn novels are her favorite writing styles and her favorite book is Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. She enjoys writing poetry, and she’s particularly inspired by Shel Silverstein. This year she hopes to write opinion and sports stories; as well as take videos. She is very excited to start writing articles, and filming life in West Linn.
