After seeing a movie she likes, Julia Mogen, junior, is determined to watch all the others movies made by the director. Wes Anderson and Quentin Tarantino are two of Mogen’s favorite directors. “The movies they produce are complete opposites, but I like both for the same reasons: their casting choices and their filming style,” Mogen said.

Playing and watching soccer is another prominent part of Mogen’s life. It is particularly important to her because it serves as a great bonding time between Mogen and her father, Eric.

“Hopefully, within the next five years my dad and I will go to England and watch an English premier league soccer game,” Mogen said. “I don’t know what team and I don’t care, I’m just looking forward to spending time with my dad.”

In addition to traveling to England, she will also be traveling to Nice, France this summer with a group of WLHS students through the EF tour program. Mogen will be there for seven days, and she will also be staying in Paris for a three days.

“One of my dreams is to see Versailles, which we will be visiting and I can’t wait to see how ridiculously lavish, ornate and beautiful the house that Louis XVI lived in,” she said.

Mogen and the other students will be attending a cultural school where they will be able to speak with locals, have dinner with them, and participate in cooking classes and learn about French film etc,.

When possible, Mogen loves attending concerts. Some of her favorite concerts she has been to are “Lorde,” “Vampire Weekend” and “Cage the Elephant.” Mogen enjoys a lot of current day bands but also likes old British Bands like “The Beatles,” “The Kinks” and “The Smiths.” If Mogen could travel back in time to listen to one band in concert she would go to a Beatles concert.

“I know it’s cliché, but the Beatles are a classic and I think it would be really fun to see,” Mogen said.

After high school, Mogen hopes to attend college, “I feel like I need to know what I want to do before deciding what college to go to,” Mogen said, but currently she is thinking about attending Southern Oregon University and possibly going into film or forms of journalistic writing.

“I think it would be really fun to write scripts because I’m so interested in the arts and movies,” Mogen adds.

Mogen possesses several strengths but she believes her most helpful one is, “Being outgoing and opinionated, works for me better,” Mogen said, “It helps me a lot throughout school and also my personality really balances out with some of my quieter friends which is nice.”

Starting out in journalism as a freshman, Mogen has always loved reviewing movies and concerts, making it fitting for her to be a reporter as well as the Arts and Culture Editor for Amplifier. Mogen is excited to continue writing for the Amplifier throughout her high school career and hopes her future is full of French culture and possibly working in the film business.
