Sarah Horn

Sarah Horn, Staff Reporter

The clock on her bedside table seemed impossible, how could it possibly be 3 a.m., wondered Sarah Horn, sophomore.

“I guess I had gotten carried away, but that happens a lot,” Horn said.

Horn’s been writing original music for years now. With over 90 original songs, you might call her a music nerd. “This doesn't just all come naturally,” Horn said. “Practice makes almost perfect. Nothing will ever be perfect, you have to keep on going.”

This perfectionism is what compels Horn to keep pushing her limits, now in the direction of journalism.

Journalism may be a challenge though, Horn’s found difficulty in school and other endeavors. “I was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and I also have dyslexia.” Horn said.

But Horn is not letting the diagnosis stop her. She’s planning on taking AP music theory next year and auditioning for May Day. “I’ve already played homecoming, what’s the harm in trying?”

When Horn played homecoming she noticed something. She saw this as the first opportunity she had through the school. In sixth grade she decided to perfect her music and went to voice lessons. Horn met others who had the same experience.

“If there is no spot for you in the arts, the school isn’t going to have opportunities for you, you need to make your own,” Horn said. With this belief Horn has attended countless open mics, where she performs regularly.

She wanted to join the Amplifier  because “ Like most people here I want to give the voice to the people who don’t get the opportunities a whole lot.” Horn said.
