Knowing the facts and being opinionated is what drew Zoe Craig, sophomore into journalism. “I’ve always been nosey and I’ve been known to be very opinionated person so it’s nice to write about it,” Craig said. “I like writing about people the best, and like things that are happening in the world and like current events.”

Journalism hasn’t been a passion for Craig though until recently. “I’ve always wanted to do something with writing or English and wanted to be an English teacher,” Craig said. “I could possibly combine teaching and journalism as a career,” she said.

As part of taking journalism, students traveled for a field trip to Portland to visit KGW and the Oregonian’s headquarters. “It was cool to see people in the professional setting and seeing people actually do [journalism] as a profession,” she said.

When she’s not busy with English or journalism, Craig enjoys gymnastics. “I’m on the cheer team,“ Craig said. “I’ve only done gym for three years, but I’ve been dancing for a really long time.”

In her free time, Craig’s favorite place is to relax is in her room with a book. “I’m always so busy so it’s nice to just have a day off. My favorite book is ‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’ or ‘Looking for Alaska,” Craig said.

Another passion for Craig is her love of travel. Besides visiting various states in the U.S., Craig traveled to Costa Rica in the eighth grade.

“I went with about 15 classmates and a teacher. One of the best experiences was when we went to help out at a school,” Craig said. “All the girls wore dresses and took school very seriously. It was cool to see how their culture was big and important to them.”

In all her activities, whether it be writing or gymnastics, Craig strives to perform her best. She’s described by her friend, Connor Whitbey, 10, as always being super bubbly and happy.
