Raul Millan

With every start of a new school year, West Linn High School seems to always have the honor of gaining a few new teachers to the teaching staff. I got to sit down with newest Spanish teacher, Raul Millan, and talk about where he grew up and some of his passions. Millan talks about his love for growing up around the Central Valley in California.

“Livingston is a small town in Central Valley California that is very agricultural based. The one thing that I do miss is the smell and the essence that a peach orchard can provide, and riding my bike to school everyday. That to me is beautiful and I do miss that,” Millan said.

Growing up in Livingston, Millan developed a passion for athletics. He played football and track and came out to Oregon for a scholarship to Lewis and Clark.

“I was able to receive an academic scholarship to go to Lewis and Clark College to be a double sport athlete, and the only way they provided that scholarship was with academics. I played football as an offensive left tackle, and I also did track as a shotput, discus, and hammer thrower,” Millan said.

Millan loved the competition and the drive that playing sports brought and wanted to continue to have that feeling of adrenaline, even after college.

“One thing I have to look forward to is the Turkey Bowl every year. We play tackle football every year and it’s something I always prepare for. My coping mechanism is to exercise so it allows me to decompress out of work,” Millan said.

Millan is excited to be a part of the West Linn High School staff, and hopes that later in the year to possibly have a weightlifting club to show students his passion.
