An Evening With Silk Sonic – Silk Sonic (Record of the Year)
Grammy award-winning artists, Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak have teamed up to create a vintage-inspired album that features elements of 90s R&B, as well as 70s blues and disco. Its first sneak peek single, “Leave the Door Open”, left listeners with high anticipation and impatience as Mars hasn’t released a new album since his last hit, “24K Magic”, in 2016. Mars and Paak have been known for entertaining their listeners with retro rhythms and aesthetics to capture the appeal of audiences of all ages. Their new and innovative approach to nostalgic styles is a clear nod to some of the greatest artists of the past decades like Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and Earth, Wind & Fire.
“An Evening With Silk Sonic” has a perfect balance of music for all relationship statuses, where “Smokin Out The Window” is a forget you ballad to the ex you’re ready to get over, and “Skate” is an upbeat, roller skating invitation to someone you’re romantically interested in. The album as a whole illustrates the perspective of Mars and Paak’s dating history and the different types of women they have been with throughout their intimate and personal lives. Songs like “After Last Night” and “Fly as me” project confidence and security in the attitudes of Paak and Mars as they imply that these women have been and will continue to be interested in staying together with them. This album has been nominated for four Grammys in the categories: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best R&B Performance, and Best R&B Song
