Continuing to compete: seniors commit to schools for academics and athletics
As the school year comes closer to an end, several athletes are committing or have already committed to colleges to further their academic and athletic careers.
Mark Hamper and Jackson Shelstad, both seniors, are committed to play football and basketball, respectively. Alongside the men, seniors Kelan Betts, Jenna Wheeler, and Ella McKay have committed for soccer, softball, and lacrosse, respectively.
All of these athletes earned Three Rivers League (TRL) all-league honors in their respective sports at West Linn. Coaches of each team nominate a certain number of players from their team, usually by position, and then all of the coaches from the TRL vote. Each coach can’t vote for their own players that they nominated. The award goes to athletes that show athletic excellence in their sport. Players can win all-league honors based on their position and the league categorizes them by first team, second team, and honorable mentions.
Overall, West Linn has had successful athletes come through the program in a variety of different sports. All of these players have been helpful to their respective team’s rankings and winnings in their time at West Linn. With seniors graduating soon, the next generation of athletes will need to fill their places.
