Devin Martin, junior, recently joined the varsity team and is eager to get to work and improve his pitching and outfield abilities. However, Martin has to wait in line to see the mound but he believes his time will come.
“I hope to work my way up,” Martin said. “I want to work on my pitching and work on how well I can throw strikes.”
When Martin gets his opportunity to throw, his walk-up song is going to be a song that has always helped him focus and lock in.
“My walk-up song is ‘Right Now’ by Playboy Carti,” Martin said. “It’s just one of those songs that gets me ready to focus.”
As for the outfield, Martin believes he will be able to play out there and contribute to the team in that aspect.
“I like to run around so outfield is a good spot for me,” Martin said. “I work on my fielding a lot and I think coach will hopefully put me out there more so than pitching.”
Martin has played with a lot of his teammates for awhile and he believes that’s where their team chemistry comes from. Even with his newer friends, he thinks that the whole squad brings so much to the team.
“I like getting out there with all of my friends that I’ve played with since I was young,” Martin said. “They bring high energy for games and practices. It keeps you in all the time.”
Going into the season as a varsity rookie, Martin is excited to bring his skills to the championship winning team.
“I can’t wait to get out there and play,” Martin said. “It is so rewarding to get to play with such passionate guys and I hope that pays off.”
