West Linn Boys Basketball remains undefeated in league play with victory over Clackamas
The West Linn Varsity Basketball team (16-4, 6-0 Three Rivers League) took on the second-in-state ranked, behind WLHS, Clackamas Cavaliers (16-4, 4-2 TRL) and emerged with a convincing 80-61 victory behind 25 points from Anthony Mathis, junior guard.
“We were really able to get out and run the court,” Eric Viuhkola, Head Coach, said. “We started making shots and were able to control the tempo.”
The Lions started off the game hot, scoring 25 points in the first quarter but faltered in the second quarter, missing easy shots, as Clackamas was able to capitalize and cut the deficit to eight at halftime, 35-27. A technical foul called on the Cavaliers right as the half ended allowed the Lions to extend its lead to ten, 37-27.
The team continued its dominance in both quarters, outscoring the Cavaliers in both the third and fourth quarters, 22-17 and 21-17, respectively. When the final buzzer sounded, the Lions won 80-61.
West Linn will take on the Lakeridge Pacers (15-5, 3-3 TRL) tonight at Lakeridge High School at 7:30 p.m.
