WLHS students travel to France to experience French culture and academics
Eight students will take the ten day trip to Paris and Nice via EF Tours
A week after school ends for summer vacation, eight students ranging from freshman to seniors, will depart to France with Spanish teacher Mary Klick. They will experience culture immersion once they land in Paris and sight see for the first three days of the ten day trip. After touring Versailles and visiting the Arc de Triomphe, they will take the Train a Grande Vitesse to Nice, a smaller tourist town on the Mediterranean coast.
“This is the first time (WLHS) has experienced a program where students will have the benefits of a full immersion experience and group travel,” Erin O’Malley, French teacher, who is not able to attend, said.
Not only will the group be in Nice for the sun and ocean, but they will also be there to learn. Through the language immersion school in Nice, students will not only practice their knowledge of France and its language in a classroom, but they will be interacting with locals.
“Each day will have a different theme and every afternoon there will be an outing connected to the theme in which students are required to navigate a situation using their language skills,” O’Malley said. Through scavenger hunts, dinner with French residents and games like Petanque, students will immerse themselves into the culture of Nice.
One of the reasons Mackenzie Miller, junior, is going on the trip to see the beauty of France. She hopes to “to come back with a lot of great memories and pictures,” she said.
Students attending the trip include:
Ben Allard, freshman
Chaney Kuepker, sophomore
Joey Klimeck-Jones, junior
Julia Mogen, junior
Mackenzie Miller, junior
Noah Clark, junior
Ryan Kelly, senior
