Math students were recognized at an induction on May 19
For only the second year, West Linn is holding an induction ceremony for Math Honors Society. Math teachers Tina Burdick and Lindsay Harris planned and organized this event and agree it was a beneficial opportunity.
“You can learn a lot about different jobs and how they use math,” Burdick said.
The ceremony took place May 19, in the WLHS auditorium. The event began at 7 p.m. and English teacher, Andy West appeared as a keynote speaker. Approximately 120 student members are involved in the organization.
“To apply to join, students need to have a 3.5 GPA in math and have an interest in math,” Burdick said.
Once they’ve joined, students will attend a monthly meeting where a speaker will talk about his or her life and how math is involved in it.
Scholarships were also available to those who excel in the Honors Society.
