The 2024-25 NFL season has been quite surprising, from Christian McCaffrey getting injured again to Sam Darnold’s 14—3 season with the Minnesota Vikings. This year is a rematch of Super Bowl LVII in 2022, which ended with a Kansas City Chiefs win, 38—35.
The Philadelphia Eagles are back for revenge, going 14—3 with their new free agent, Saquon Barkley. Barkley has carried the Eagles running game, making a 2005 yards rushing season with his new team. His amazing season has translated him into being an MVP candidate, as well as being an Offensive Player of the Year (OPOY) favorite. The passing game has been up to standard, despite Jalen Hurts’ concussion in week 16. Hurts has 2,903 passing yards while his star receivers A.J Brown and Devonta Smith have a combined 1,912 receiving yards. Last year, key players such as Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox retired with the Eagles which would present a challenge. New players have stepped up this season, such as Cooper DeJean, a rookie cornerback drafted from Iowa.
With these new additions, the Eagles have been dominant, only allowing an average of 278.4 yards per game.
On the other hand, the Kansas City Chiefs have done well this season, achieving a 15—2 record and being undefeated at home. They scored a meager 385 points this season, which is one stat that stands out. KC have failed to score above 30 points in all 17 of their regular season games, but they made it to the Super Bowl.
On the other hand, they have only allowed an average of 19.2 points per game. Linebacker Nick Bolton has helped their defense by getting 106 tackles. Out of their 15 wins, eight have been influenced by penalties/overturned calls on the opposing team. Some have argued that the Kansas City Chiefs are involved in a “referee scandal” because of this, but NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has denied these allegations.
The Chiefs have been lucky, but will their luck hold for the Super Bowl? The Eagles won their last Super Bowl in 2018 and the Chiefs are looking for a three-peat. As a Seahawks fan, I’m not too fond of either team but my pick for the winner is the Eagles, 30—26. I think the game will be a close one considering Patrick Mahomes and his talent in the playoffs, but the Eagles will reel it in with a big stop from their defense.
