After a disappointing regular season, West Linn (4-6, 1-4 Three Rivers League) took on the Mckay Royal Scots (3-7, 1-4 Central Valley Conference) in a play-in game for a chance to play in the OSAA state football playoffs. Helped by a 34-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lions easily ran over the Scots 61-27.
West Linn started its scoring rampage with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Hayden Coppedge, junior quarterback, to Braden Vogt, junior wide receiver. Louis Germain, junior running back, added two touchdowns of his own from three yards and one yard. Cameron Schmitz had a 39 yard interception returned for a touchdown to put West Linn up 28-0. Mckay finally scored on a 65-yard touchdown run from Tyler Gonzalez, senior running back. On the ensuing kickoff, Dalton Tuor, senior running back had a 96 yard return for a touchdown. At the end of the first quarter the score was 34-6.
West Linn scored twice in the second quarter; once on a pass from Coppedge to Jarrod Howard, senior wide receiver, and again on a 50-yard touchdown run from Tuor.
In the third quarter, the Lions scored on a four yard scramble from Matt Fletcher, senior quarterback to put them up 54-6. McKay added a touchdown of its own on a 12-yard pass from Nathan Carter, senior quarterback, to Juan Ochoa, senior wide receiver to finish out the third quarter.
Gonzalez scored again on a nine yard touchdown run, but West Linn stormed right back from a 29-yard touchdown dash from Nic Sullwold, senior running back. Mckay finished out the scoring on the night with a 30 yard touchdown pass from Lorenzo Sterling, junior quarterback to Sam Harris, junior wide receiver.
West Linn takes on the top seeded Southridge Skyhawks Nov. 9 at 7 P.M at Southridge High School.
