West Linn Girls Lacrosse Team beats Wilsonville in state semifinals, 15-9
The West Linn Girls Lacrosse Team advanced to the championship game after dominating Wilsonville 15-9. They play against Lake Oswego at Tualatin High School Wed. May 20 at 7 p.m.
After an hour and a half of delays because of sporadic lightning strikes, the Girls Lacrosse State Semifinal game began. Wilsonville won the first draw which led to a score for the Wildcats. The first few minutes weren’t looking good for West Linn as Wilsonville grabbed its third goal.
The Wilsonville student section boldly chanted, “I believe that we will win” when up 3-1. Hanna Morford, senior, who recently committed to playing for University of Redlands, scored West Linn’s first goal.
By the end of the half, West Linn and Wilsonville were tied 5-5. Morford opened the second half with a goal, bringing West Linn into its first lead. After more goals from players like Natalie Byrne, junior, and Morgan Finklea, sophomore, West Linn was able to keep its lead. With a ring of the buzzer, West Linn won 15-9.
Lake Oswego beat Oregon Episcopal School 14-7 following the West Linn-Wilsonville game. West Linn will re-match Lake Oswego after losing to them last year.
