West Linn Girls Lacrosse Team wins State Championship
West Linn Girls Lacrosse Team beat Lake Oswego 12-10 in a close and emotional State Championship game held at Tualatin High School on May 20. The Lakers came out strong with the first goal and a roaring student section. West Linn lagged behind the entire first half by a point or two.
Down 5-4 at the start of the half, key goals came from Natalie Byrne, junior, who scored six throughout the game keeping the Lions alive. West Linn finally broke into the lead with less than ten minutes left. The West Linn student section rallied behind the large green and white flag that was waved each time they scored.
When Lake Oswego’s goalie received a yellow card for cross checking a West Linn player, the Lions was able to secure the win with an easy penalty shot. This marks the second title in three years for the Lion Girls Lacrosse Program.
