On Feb. 16, the womens varsity basketball team had their senior night to recognize players before they graduate. Alaina Moore, shooting guard, is amongst the seniors of the team. Moore is looking back on her high school years in her fourth and final season.
“I’ve learned a lot about leadership, and especially just being there for those that you care about, and supporting them with everything you can,” Moore said.
Forwards Ava Hess and Maci Churchill and center Poppy Friel, seniors, were also recognized before the game, with their friends and families in the audience.
“I feel like as seniors we built a pretty strong connection amongst everyone,” Moore said. “Even though there won’t be a lot of seniors next year, I think they’ll stay a pretty close group. It will be good.”
The Lions won their senior night 66—30. They have two more league games left in the season, against the Lake Oswego Lakers and Oregon City Pioneers. Their last game will be against Oregon City, who are third in the Three Rivers League (TRL) standings on Feb. 23. At this point, the womens team is one game behind the Tualatin Timberwolves and a half of a game ahead of Oregon City for first place in the TRL.
“It was just a really fun experience,” Moore said, “I love this team with my whole heart, so playing with them on senior night was amazing. It’s very bittersweet because I love the team so much and we’re so close.”
Their next game will be an away game against Lake Oswego on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m.
