Celebrating together
Affinity Club puts on Diwali
One of the major festivals practiced by Jains, Hindus, and Sikhs, Diwali symbolizes the victory of light over darkness. This year it began on Nov. 4. Students could eat food unique to the culture, color in traditional Rangoli designs, socialize, with emphasis on creating connections between students in a safe, welcoming environment. In addition to students, club advisors, including Meagyn Karmakar, were there. “We just wanted to bring out some food and to sit down and kind of have some music and share some of the traditions of Diwali just as a fun way to hang out together and celebrate,” Karmakar said.
