Thirty-five students auditioned for the fall musical, “Kiss Me Kate,” on Sept. 10, and the cast of 27 has been announced. The cast includes several underclassmen, who are taking a couple of the lead roles, which Jessica Murray, theatre director, is very pleased about.
“We have a very young group this year – the freshman class is pretty spectacular,” Murray said, “which bodes well for our future.”
“Kiss Me Kate” is a musical by Cole Porter about actors performing in a musical version of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of The Shrew.” Fred Graham (Dane Shroy, freshman) is the show-within-the-show’s director, producer and lead. Lilli Vanessi (Keeley Anderson, junior) is his ex-wife, playing the shrew herself in the show. Harrison Howell (Riley Olson, junior) is her new fiancé, and Lois Lane (Jennie Warmack, senior) is the woman Fred is now pursuing. However, Lois is currently with Bill Calhoun (Evan Shely, freshman), who is involved with the dangerous life of gambling and gangsters.
“Kiss Me Kate” runs at 7 p.m. in the auditorium from Nov. 8-10 and Nov. 15-17. Tickets will be available for purchase at the box office starting in October.
