The West Linn high School boys lacrosse team beat Lincoln 11-10 in a thrilling game that came down to the wire last Friday, March 23. Lincoln lacrosse is the defending state champion for the past two years and didn’t lose a game to an Oregon team at all last year. After a tough overtime loss to Lincoln last year, the Lions felt prepared to win this time.
“The last two years they won state and we should have beaten them (last year), so we owed them,” Kevin Cathcart, senior, said. Lincoln has a powerful team this year and the match was highly anticipated but they couldn’t beat the Lions.
“Their entire offense is playing NCAA lacrosse next year and we shut them down,” Cathcart said. In the final seven seconds of the game Andrew Weinhart, senior, scored the game winning goal to put the Lions on top.
Although early in the season, this game showed that the Lions will be a competing force this season.
