It had been decades since both the West Linn Boys and Girls basketball teams made the State playoffs at the same time. That all changed this season, as both the boys and girls teams placed fifth in state. Members of those teams are now being honored at the highest level.
On April 7, the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) announced its 2011-2012 Boys and Girls all-state basketball teams. Two West Linn student athletes were ranked among the best of the best.
Mitchell Cokley, senior, was selected to the all-state second team for his performance as the Lions point guard this year.
“It’s just an honor to be selected,” Cokley said. “A lot of good players were chosen, so it’s nice to be part of it.”
Cokley was also named to first team all Three Rivers League.
The other Lion honored was Karly Levque, senior, who was named to the honorable mention team.
Levque was also named to the first team TRL.
“It was a nice way to finish off my senior year and very exciting,” Leveque said. “I hope next year I can carry over some confidence playing basketball and continue improving upon my skills.”
