Belle Cogan

Belle Cogan, Staff Writer

As a person who has a great interest in the arts, Belle Cogan, sophomore, signed up for journalism at the end of eighth grade, although she didn’t quite get what she expected. Cogan has a love of artistic writing, so journalism was a bit of a different for her than she thought it would be.

“It wasn’t what I expected, but it’s okay in a way,” Cogan said. “I appreciate it.

Cogan’s appreciation for literature stretches from fiction to manga, an increasingly popular style of comic, which originated in Japan. She enjoys manga because it doesn’t have a lot of words and she loves looking at pictures while she reads.

In the world of fiction, Cogan looks up to and would like to meet Cassandra Clare someday. Clare is the author of the famed book-turned-series, “The Mortal Instruments.”

Being highly inspired by manga and animation, Cogan also looks up to Hayao Miyazaki, the creator of internationally renowned animated movies such as “Spirited Away” and “My Neighbor Totoro.” Cogan would like to follow in Miyazaki’s footsteps in the art world. She hopes to be an animator someday.

Along with finding inspiration in literature and animation, Cogan is inspired by music. She looks up to Beyoncé Knowles, because “she is such a great artist, and likes to express herself and be positive,” Cogan said. It’s something she tries to imitate in her life.
