“Pirates,” director Kendall Gordon, junior, said. “Pirates prefer pandemonium.”

Who Prefers Pandemonium is a new, entirely student-run musical written and directed by Gordon, with a cast of twenty student volunteers and Ms. Fontana as the adult advisor.

“I always like to be busy,” Gordon said. “I will do whatever it takes to get the show performed.”

Described by Gordon as a “comical, original musical about the exploits of two pirate crews to assemble a coveted treasure map,” Who Prefers Pandemonium is about two hours long. “It’s very impressive,” said actor Brady McDevitt, junior, said. “Kendall has this huge vision.”

The two performances are scheduled for June, most likely in the Black Box in the PAC. To make up for the lack of revenue, Gordon has set up a Kickstarter, which has 24 days and $600 to go. $1 backers are promised a photo album of the rehearsals if the total amount reaches the goal of $600. “We don’t even have the Black Box for sure,” Gordon said.

“It’ll be free admission, but donations are welcome,” Gordon said. The two performances are scheduled for June, most likely in the Black Box in the PAC. “I had like $40, but I’ve been doing cookie sales for Valentine’s Day,” Gordon said. In two days, Gordon managed to sell over $100 worth of cookies.

“I will be buying the costumes,” Gordon said. “The set will not be elaborate. It won’t be Broadway-level. I’m going to ask most of the pirates to come up with their own costumes. Most of the props I can make.”

Gordon wrote all of the songs herself except for an excerpt from Yellow Submarine.

“I think I was just listening to Yellow Submarine, and I thought, ‘this character would totally sing this,’” Gordon said.

Due to the low budget, no microphones will be used. There will also be no orchestra. “Just me on the piano and a character playing a ukulele,” Gordon said. She plans to do all of the musical accompaniment herself.

Actors include Cameros Massey, Kam Koslowski (who played Pugsley in the Addams Family Musical), Audrey Lipsey (who played Wednesday in the same production), Kendall Gordon (who is also the director), and Brady McDevitt. “A lot of the cast are freshman, but they’re very talented freshman,” McDevitt said.

“It’s kind of cheesy, but it’s very funny,” McDevitt said. “We can make the stage anywhere. It’s very impressive.”

Here’s an excerpt from the script:

“And I am the greatest pirate this side of the Atlantic, aren’t I, Finnian?” Captain Cavenaugh asked.

“Oh, yessir!” Finnian said. “Devil’s-Grin Cavenaugh is the only captain for me.”

“And a great pirate captain needs a great pirate crew, doesn’t he, men?” Cavenaugh said to the crew. After the crew cheered, he went on to say, “What a pity I haven’t got one.”
