Spotify Wrapped: The most streamed albums globally in 2021
1. “Sour” by Olivia Rodrigo
Olivia Rodrigo’s debut album reached number one on most streamed albums globally. Her top streamed song off of this album is “Drivers License”, released on Jan. 8, 2021, with the full album being released May 21, 2021. With the Grammys in late January, Rodrigo was nominated for six, including Best New Artist.
2. “Future Nostalgia” by Dua Lipa
“Future Nostalgia” was released on March 27, 2020, reaching second on the list of top albums listened to globally on Spotify Wrapped. The most listened to song off of this album is ”Levitating”, reaching over one billion streams.
3. “Justice” by Justin Bieber
“Justice” was released on March 19, 2021. ”Peaches”, being one of Bieber’s top songs on the album, reached almost one billion streams. What is next for Bieber after a Grammy, 15 American Music Awards, and 21 MTV Europe Music Awards?
4. “= by Ed Sheeran
“=” was released on October 29, 2021, placed number 4 on most streamed albums this year. With “=” being Sheeran’s fourth studio album, people are wondering when he will release again, will the next album be “subtract?
5. “Planet Her” by Doja Cat
“Planet Her”, released on June 25, 2021 with the song “Kiss Me More (feat. SZA)” reaching over nine thousand streams this year being the most listened to song on the album. Doja Cat and some members of her production team recently tested positive for COVID-19, forcing herself to drop out of the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Tour. People are questioning if she will lose some of her fan base after testing positive.
