Students volunteer at local business Gingerbread Traditions
Key Club and National Honor Society team up to serve the community
When owner Cheryl Albers was diagnosed with cancer this past year, she did not know how her family operated company Gingerbread Traditions was going to fill orders for specialized gingerbread kits. When the WLHS community heard about the hardships the family business was facing, a call for volunteers was issued through both Key Club and NHS.
“I heard about the opportunity to serve through the NHS Facebook page,” Sarah Oliveras, junior, said. “It was definitely a service project I knew I had to be a part of.”
For the past two Saturdays volunteers arrived at 9 am to assemble gingerbread kits, and stayed until 3 pm assembling candy kits, and constructing shipping boxes.
“It was a lot of fun to assemble the kits, and make the finish product with all of the parts,”Angie Hammond, school technology specialist, said.
Key Club has decided to continue a relationship with Gingerbread Traditions through the entire holiday season, and has encouraged the club members to volunteer for the cause.
