Red Cross Blood Drive returns to West Linn on Feb. 25.
Ian Mathes, junior looks forward to giving blood during the last West Linn High School blood drive. WLHS students will have the opportunity to save up to three lives by donating blood on Feb. 25.
The Red Cross Blood Drive is providing West Linn High School students the opportunity to save three lives by donating blood on Feb. 25. Students can register to donate in the library or through any of the Red Cross High School team members.
Students who wish to donate must be 17 years-old or 16 with consent from their parents. Students must also weigh 110 lbs. or more. Red Cross also asks that if you are sick or have been lately, to refrain from donating. For more requirements visit http://www.redcrossblood.org/donating-blood/eligibility-requirements
It is important to be aware of the possible risks that come with donating according to Red Cross. Some students may experience dizziness, headaches, lightheadedness, stomachaches and fatigue as a result there is the possibility of fainting and/or throwing up after or during the donation. To help avoid these symptoms it is recommended to have a good nights sleep the night before and to eat a big healthy meal before donating.
The donation process will take approximately two hours. Afterwards sandwiches, snacks and drinks are provided to students. If your blood is usable (to see what makes blood useable visit http://www.redcrossblood.org/learn-about-blood/what-happens-donated-blood) then it will be used for transfusions for car accident victims, cancer patients, people with blood disorders etc,.
