Rudy Hughes, Class of 2015, plays his last season for WLHS as a defensive back and wide receiver. Hughes was chosen to play in the Les Schwab Bowl, Oregon’s All Star Football Game on June 20 at the Hillsboro Stadium.

Rivalries and friendships will be put aside during the 68th annual Les Schwab Bowl. High school seniors from around the state have been chosen to participate in Oregon’s All Star Football Game in the traditional form of North vs South, and West Linn’s Rudy Hughes, Class of 2015, will have to work with players he played against during the season.

“Players come from 6A and 5A schools from all over the state,” Mark Horak, Athletic Director, said. “It is an honor for players to be picked for this contest. It shows that they were one of the top players in the state the previous year.”

The north team will be coached by Ken Potter, Jesuit High School head football coach, and the south team will be coached by Lane Johnson, Sheldon High School head football coach. Hughes will play for the north team.

In week prior to the game, coaches and players from both teams are housed at Pacific University and practice twice a day. However, along with practicing, players will go out into the community at night and participate in bonding activities as well as local service projects.

“It does benefit the players who have not yet signed with a school to be noticed by colleges,” Horak said.

The game will take place Saturday, June 20, at the Hillsboro Stadium. Doors open at 3 p.m. and kickoff will be at 6 p.m. Adult general admission costs $8 and student general admission costs $6. All proceeds benefit the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association general scholarship as well as Oregon 6A and 5A schools. The Les Schwab Bowl is considered one of the most well attended statewide all-star games in the country.
