West Linn girls lacrosse looks to settle season-long score in State title game

As it has been for many West Linn programs this year, the girls lacrosse team’s fate will be decided on how it performs against Lake Oswego. This time, though, the stakes are higher;  tonight, at 7 p.m.  at Hillsboro Stadium, the Lions will battle the Lakers for the State Championship.
“It’s incredible,” Hannah Weber, senior, said. “I still can’t even believe that we are here”
In both games earlier this season the Lions lost to the Lakers, including a 12-11 overtime thriller in their most recent battle.
“We want to beat L.O. so bad,” Weber said. “It’s been our goal for this season and last season, so it’s sitting right in front of us, we just need to (grab) it.”
The Lions are 16-2 this year, placing second in the Three Rivers League behind the Lakers. Victories over Sherwood, Southridge and Lincoln have propelled West Linn to tonight’s game.
The Lions will rely on the leadership of senior captains Weber and Hayley Sheppard for tonight’s game. Kayla Brouchard, junior, Alexy Daharb and Mariah Gatti, sophomores, also figure to be key components to West Linn’s game plan.
“We plan on winning by passing the ball quickly and being positive throughout the entire game,” Weber said.
