West Linn Boys Tennis starts season well with league opening win against Oregon City
With a goal of chasing down the rival Lakeridge Pacers the West Linn Boys Varsity Tennis team (1-0) opened up league play against the Oregon City Pioneers (0-1) and dominated, winning 6-2.
“We didn’t play well in first and second ranked doubles,” Ward Lewis, head coach, said. “The chemistry is not there yet.”
John Rowan, junior, and doubles partner Justus Gulbrandson, junior, won 6-0, 6-1 along with wins from singles player Mitch Tingey (6-2, 6-0), senior, Matt Perkins (6-0, 6-1), freshman, and Noah Archer (6-0, 6-0), sophomore, that helped push the Lions to victory.
“I think we can improve our consistency and perseverance as a team,” Rowan said. “But I really don’t see a whole lot of weak links on the team.”
“We have great team unity,” Lewis said. “We all like each other, we have great team captains in Mitch [Tingey] and Connor Houlette [junior].”
